Peter BL Posted May 5, 2011 Posted May 5, 2011 (edited) Picked up this interesting piece the other day. Made in solid machined Brass, it's the 9th U-Boot Flottilla Emblem (Laughing Sawfish). The inscription around the base reads 'CHRISTMAS 1943'. After speaking to the dealer, it was evidently a gift to a U-Boat crewman and came direct from the family. Just wondering if anyone's seen anything like this before. It's quite small, about the size of an Iron Cross. Thanks in advance....Peter Edited July 14, 2011 by Peter Baillie
gingerbread Posted May 6, 2011 Posted May 6, 2011  Very nice item, i tried to buy it!!! But too late!!! I think it's a gift for a member of the 9 U-Flottille Staff in Brest. IMO This kind of item was made by the Kreigsmarinewerft workers. Regards Ben
nesredep Posted May 8, 2011 Posted May 8, 2011 Hi! Very rare item you sharing, thanks. All the best Morten.
Peter BL Posted May 9, 2011 Author Posted May 9, 2011 Thanks for the response guys. Yes, I agree, it's a nice piece and for me, completely period. I was hoping Gordon or Michel had encountered pieces like this one and would be able to post an opinion or similar pieces.
Erik Krogh Posted July 13, 2011 Posted July 13, 2011 Hello Peter, Here is my 9th Flottille desk ornament for reference. Not made as a Christmas gift, but looks period to me. Best, Erik
Peter BL Posted July 14, 2011 Author Posted July 14, 2011 Hi Erik...sorry for the late reply. Nice piece and as you say, could well be period. The Sawfish looks good IMO.
