I'd be grateful for any information you have. Sorry for late reply but the reverse image unfortunately does not provide anymore clues. So, most likely Persian manufactured.
NovelAmphibian Posted May 23, 2023 Posted May 23, 2023 Thank you anyway! Does the ribbon tell you anything much? I haven't seen another example like it, here.
g1usxs Posted May 29, 2023 Posted May 29, 2023 In this instance the ribbon does not exclusively indicate a specific country or jeweler. While a Rosette on the ribbon mostly indicates a French or Belgium origin, but I have also come across Persian manufactured pieces with rosettes on their ribbons. Also please note that ribbons are highly subject to replacement by dealers.
pieter1012 Posted December 13, 2024 Posted December 13, 2024 Reviving this topic, sometimes the case of the order of the Lion & the Sun is not rectengular and made of red velvet. Does anyone know who the maker was and for which occasions it was used? Thanks an regards, Pieter
TracA Posted December 14, 2024 Posted December 14, 2024 Just found this thread. For me this is a very beautiful order. For quite a while I have resisted the urge to start collecting them. Tracy
pieter1012 Posted February 19 Posted February 19 Could finally add a Faiz Allah Lion & Sun order to my collection. You don't see this maker often. 1
Tim Anderson Posted 6 hours ago Posted 6 hours ago I have attached here 2 pictures of Col Joseph D'Arcy (Royal Horse Artillery and RA) who was awarded the Order of The Lion and Sun (second class) in 1815 by the Shah of Persia as a result of his work training the Persian army. He was granted Royal consent to wear the order in 1818. We have drawing of the order and a portrait of him wearing it (This portrait is now in the V&A). I have not seen any original orders that look the same - sadly this has long ago left the family. He was also awarded a sword by the Shah after helping defat the Russians at Sultanabad 1808. If anyone has a picture of the order in the form shown below - i would love to see it. 1
