hunyadi Posted July 20, 2011 Posted July 20, 2011 Things must be getting bad - got this off the Hungarian Ebay for a fraction of the price that it was sold to another collector years ago. This is the ONLY one of these caps that I am aware of outside of the Budapest Military Museum. This is an "overseas" cap in the summer weight for the dreaded AVH - National Security Police Force - or secret police. This is properly stamped with the AVHKASZ (AVH Warehouse) on the interior - looks to be a 1950 date or possibly 1953. What makes this rare is that nearly every AVH piece of uniform was destroyed in the 1956 Revolution, once more rare is the pentagon insignia - this was only worn for a short period of time in the early 1950's. Anything AVH is already rare and this having the original pentagon makes it an ultra rare item.
hunyadi Posted July 20, 2011 Author Posted July 20, 2011 These overseas caps were for enlisted men only. An image of the stamp
Gordon Craig Posted July 30, 2011 Posted July 30, 2011 Charles, That is a really nice piece. I don't remember seeing this one in the museum. Nice to have reference pictures of line for this rare item. Regards, Gordon
