Spasm Posted October 22, 2011 Posted October 22, 2011 (edited) Went round another of her Auntie's places today to put up some shelves. Did the shelving, was bought some fish, chips, mushy peas and a massive pickled onion for lunch and was given a couple of pictures. Don't know too much about them but will dig into her memory banks later on. Edited October 22, 2011 by Spasm
Spasm Posted October 22, 2011 Author Posted October 22, 2011 Was then talking about militaria (as you do) and was told that a music shop round the corner used to have some old army stuff for sale. So, off I went and found said shop that sold guitars etc but looking further in found a whole pile of fantastic gear in display cabinets up for sale. I asked if he had any Somerset Light Infantry badges (to go with the guys in this picture) and he threw a whole pile of them on the counter.
Spasm Posted October 22, 2011 Author Posted October 22, 2011 (edited) He also threw this in for a song: Edited October 22, 2011 by Spasm
Spasm Posted October 22, 2011 Author Posted October 22, 2011 (edited) And I love this little ribbon with the tiny cross - it's not from a pin, it has prongs bent over on the reverse (you can see one poking out on the left). All very worn I know but just great. Edited October 22, 2011 by Spasm
Spasm Posted October 22, 2011 Author Posted October 22, 2011 (edited) Any ideas on the first picture - Regt. etc ? I've just found another photo (civilian) and a name for the handsome bloke with the impressive tash in the second picture and will post more on him as I find it Spaz Edited October 22, 2011 by Spasm
IrishGunner Posted October 22, 2011 Posted October 22, 2011 Nicely done - and I was impressed at first with the fish and chips. I too like that ribbon with the mini-EK device. The look of a real veteran. What song did you have to sing?
Spasm Posted October 23, 2011 Author Posted October 23, 2011 When I asked what he wanted for it he said "well, this used to be mine, what?, it's still mine, it's my shop" Obviously used to have it in his display - he he
Chris Boonzaier Posted October 23, 2011 Posted October 23, 2011 I would love to find a little shop like that just around the corner.... Really nice, especially the little ribbon with its device...
gregM Posted October 23, 2011 Posted October 23, 2011 Nice find. It's good to see this stuff is still out there.
TacHel Posted October 29, 2011 Posted October 29, 2011 Sweet! Like Greg says, it's nice to believe one can go into a small shop and still find such unspoiled treasures.
