Tom Y Posted January 27, 2006 Posted January 27, 2006 Man's bestfriend has been associated with war since time immemorial. I can picture a Neanderthal saying, "Sic 'em, Wuff." They were used as combattants, aid workers, and for just plain companionship. This little fellow falls into the last class.
Tom Y Posted January 27, 2006 Author Posted January 27, 2006 Like all good soldiers, they needed a little R&R now and then. But sometimes there were repecussions, as this Sch?ferhund found out.

Chris Boonzaier Posted January 27, 2006 Posted January 27, 2006 There is a great postcard of immelmann with his dog, a fine looking beast named "Tyras".. I no longer have it... but boy.. what a dog...
Daniel Murphy Posted January 27, 2006 Posted January 27, 2006 They were used as combattants, aid workers, and for just plain companionship. Not to mention many of the smaller dogs such as terriers were used to hunt and kill rats. Dan Murphy

Shouldn't have. My Uncle Joe kept terriers instead of cats to patrol the barn. The little guy in the first photo looks a little too portly to be a good ratter, though
Chris Boonzaier Posted February 15, 2007 Posted February 15, 2007 Does anyone have the Sanke Immelmann card to post?
Mike Dwyer Posted February 15, 2007 Posted February 15, 2007 I don't have any "dogs of war" since I only collect postcards of royalty and generals, but I do have a few with dogs in them. Unfortunately, I seem to only have one cataloged on my computer right now.Crown Prince Willy and friend...............
