Irish Posted January 22, 2012 Posted January 22, 2012 (edited) Here are 2 award documents and medals awarded to U.S. Army Officers in WW2, The first is to Colonel Karl B. Schilling who the commander of the U.S 9th Aviation Engineers which was attached to the 9th Air Force. The award document has what I assume is a facimilie signature of General Juin. The medal award ceremony was attended by a French Colonel who actually made the award. A photo of Col Schilling receiving this award is at the bottom. Gen Juin was not in attendance. Colonel Schilling had landed with his command on June 6th in Normandy. Edited January 22, 2012 by Irish
Chris Boonzaier Posted January 22, 2012 Posted January 22, 2012 Hi, that is nice, are you sure the signature is not real? Best Chrs
Irish Posted January 22, 2012 Author Posted January 22, 2012 The 2nd award is Colonel William T Starr who was a memeber of U.S. 6th Army Group HQ. The French 1st Armee was part of the 6th Army Group. This award document and medal had been framed by the original owner. The document has a facimilie signature of General de Lattre de. Tassigny however in this case General de Tassigny did make the award to Colonel Starr and that photo is at the bottom. I have also included a invitation to Colonel Starr by 1st Spahi Brigade which I think is a nice piece of field art and printing.
Irish Posted January 22, 2012 Author Posted January 22, 2012 Chris it is possible the signature is original. At first glance it looked to be printed. Can one the moderators correct my mis-pelling in the topic heading Guerre not Querre. Many apologies for that faux pas
Irish Posted January 22, 2012 Author Posted January 22, 2012 Here is a closer shot of the Gen Juin signature. It is possible to be original. what do others think?
