marrauder
I just purchased this Godet chain for two miniatures. This type of button was missing in my collection till now, so I am happy with it, although there are no minis present. I have some questions: Can we approximately date this chain according to the type of button used?
marrauder
On the left is more common Godet button, that can be seen on miniature chains, on the right is my fresh purchase. Which one is older, or were they used simultaneously?

Streptile
Yours is older. At some point (in my opinion in the later 19th C.) Godet kette buttons switched from "I. Godet" to "J. Godet." It's hard to put a precise date on yours, but I would say it is certainly before 1895.
marrauder
Thank you for the info. Do you think these two were used only as chain buttons? There are four holes on my piece. I thought it was for thread, but maybe I am wrong. Regards

Godet) type whereas those with later decorations tend to be on the J. Godet type. Exactly when this change took place, I can’t say; but around 1890-5 makes sense. marrauder
Thanks again. Hope I can continue with my questions about Godet buttons in this thread. My next one is about the last Godet&Sohn design: - Aren´t there in fact two designs, or versions? One with fat and second with thin letters? For illustration, here are two House Orden of Hohenzollern minis, offered in the same time by Kai Winkler.

marrauder
Thin type from my collection. Notice mainly the differences in "o" letter in word "Sohn". Thanks in advance for any opinions.
