Chris Boonzaier
Hi, I dont have my Books at hand, did they take their ersatz from Grenadier regiments? In this case it was 2. Sturmbataillon. Best Chris
Dave Danner
13's was II.Ers./GR 4 17's was II.Ers./GR 2 For Sturm-Btl. Nr. 2, it was Ers./IR 30. I suppose by this point in the war, someone who entered service as a Grenadier could have been almost anywhere. Wounded, then into IR 30's replacement system, or even into the MGK, which had its own replacement pipeline.

AOK4
Hello, If I am not mistaken, a private in a Sturm-Bataillon was called "Grenadier". I would say it would make sense that some may have added "Sturm" to specifically refer to a private of a Sturm-Bataillon in comparison to a private of any Grenadier unit. Dave Danner
Wouldn't it depend on the Stammformation? In bayer. Sturm-Bataillon Nr. 6's infantry company, privates all seem to have held the rank of Infanterist. Edited April 8, 2012 by Dave Danner
The Prussian
Here you go... feast your eyes on this one... Hello Chris! Thanks for showing this very ineresting thing! Well, there are different reasons to call someone "Sturmgrenadier". The words "Sturm-Gemeiner" or "Sturm-Infanterist" don´t sound good in german language. But for the main reason, we have to look at a Sturmbataillon. The Sturmbataillon 2 existed of: One staff ; one Sturmkompanie, one MG-Kompanie and one MW-Kompanie. So I think, that Sturm-Grenadier Funk belonged to the Sturmkompanie of the bataillon.

The Prussian
Could he be: Oberleutnant Edler v. Graeve (Gren.Rgt.110), later Hautpmann a.D.?
