Please help with submarine foto 3rd

That would appear to be U-57

That is what i first thought Laurence.

I have this image of what i think is the U-57 and it looks like Topp on the right of the conning tower?

The "Devil" symbol in this image is more towards the front of the tower and not on the side,as seen in Dede's photo.

However, this "Devil" symbol was later used by the U-552,U-794,U-1406 and the U-2513.

So,i am inclinded to think that this is perhaps a photo of one of these other boats ?

    Regards,Martin.

The small conning tower would suggest a Type II u-boat, of which U-57 was one. U-552 was a Type VIIC which was a much bigger boat with a step down conning tower and a flak gun on the lower level. U-794 was awas a type XVII Walther prototype and the holes along the hull for diving etc don't match the foto. U-1406 was also a type XVII Walther boat which hjad a different type of conning tower as well. U-2513 was a type XXI "Elektro" type boat with guns built into the front and rear of the conning tower, and a conning tower similar to modern day subs.

I am not saying that it is U-57 for sure, however it does not leave much in the way of choices......maybe that is a squadron mark? Where is Gordon when we need him ;) I will look thru my books some more tomorrow.

At this point my thoughts of the photo being U-57 seems to be correct.

I have to agree with you Laurence.

It looks like the photo of the boat i posted is of the U-552.

Thanks for the interesting link also.

    Regards,Martin.
