Solomon Posted February 4, 2006 Posted February 4, 2006 (edited) Hello,as requested, here are two more nice medals from Lippe-Detmold(Note: Look at them at your own risk! ) Silver merit-medal Lippe-Detmold with original caseThis medal is made of silver. It?s the late design (from 1906-1918) without the designer?s name "WEIGAND F." on it (awarded 1888-1905).At the front you can see the detailed head of prince Woldemar zur Lippe. At the back you can read "Fuer Treue und Verdienst" (For loyalty and merit)The blue-red-blue ribbon is of course the original. At the ring you can find the mark "S-W" for the manufactor Sy & Wagner, Berlin. There is also his stamp in the case...The number of recipients i don?t know, but i guess it will be less than 1000 awards. The opened case: Edited February 4, 2006 by Solomon
Solomon Posted February 4, 2006 Author Posted February 4, 2006 and the medal with the mark on the ring:
Solomon Posted February 4, 2006 Author Posted February 4, 2006 (edited) And now an another highlight of my collection and a real brother of the silver one:Golden merit-medal Lippe-Detmold on a single-barThis medal is also made of silver (painted golden). It?s the late design (from 1906-1918).At the ring you can find also the mark "S-W" for the manufactor Sy & Wagner, Berlin....the same manufactor of my silver award It is very rare, especially on a single-medalbar.By the way...exactely this medal was in the collection from the most famous Lippe-Detmold-collector Paul Weweler, I found the picture (with the damage at the top of the crown) in the catalogue of the auction.(I mentioned it in my article about the order for art and sience of Lippe-Detmold).The number of recipients again i don?t know, but i?m sure it will be less than 1000, perhaps less than 500.I hope you like them Greetings Solomon Edited February 4, 2006 by Solomon
Bob Hunter Posted February 5, 2006 Posted February 5, 2006 Exceptional specimens. Thanks for sharing them.
Stogieman Posted February 5, 2006 Posted February 5, 2006 And both are rather hard to locate. especially in this condition. I have only had the Silver once, cased. Never a Gold. Very nice indeed!
Steve K. Posted February 5, 2006 Posted February 5, 2006 (edited) Beautiful medal!! This is the first time my eyes have seen this Lippe-Detmold medal!! I love the crown!! Edited February 5, 2006 by Steve K.
Guest Rick Research Posted February 5, 2006 Posted February 5, 2006 I know that the award rolls for all the classes of the Lippe House Order still exist, because my late Imperial mentor George Seymour xeroxed them. So I would think/hope that the award rolls for these medals must/should also survive in the Detmold Archives:a task for the person who would like to carry on the late Erhard Roth's splendid WW1 award rolls publication work? Many of these pre-war awards would be well worth similar effort, and find reference work buyers just as eager to KNOW award totals.
Bob Hunter Posted February 6, 2006 Posted February 6, 2006 OK, Stogie, 'splain the new avatar. What kinda Rooskie thingy is that??
Stogieman Posted February 7, 2006 Posted February 7, 2006 I was poking around my archives and found this from once upon a time!
Stogieman Posted February 7, 2006 Posted February 7, 2006 Bob, not Russki, Mongolischen! Here's the lid!
Stogieman Posted February 7, 2006 Posted February 7, 2006 How about that! My previous from memory post was backwards. I had the Gold one cased, not silver!!!
Solomon Posted March 2, 2006 Author Posted March 2, 2006 My visit in Detmold brought some more information :The number of awards (according to the lists):golden merit medal: 173 awards (incl. 64 untill 1907)silver merit medal: 593 awardsAnd there is another important information:Silver medal, made by Sy & Wagner, were all private sold and not awarded !It?s similiar with the golden medal...only 16 medal, made by Sy & Wagner, were delievered to the Staatsministerium Lippe-Detmold. I don?t know if my medal is on of these 16.But i still like my both medals GreetingsSolomon
