    Bonjour,

Research info on the Medal of the Red Cross :

    - number of class,

    - date of creation of the medal,

    - test for obtaining,

    - number of medals conferred.

I found only a single representation of the medal (in the left corner).

There are two levels of this medal 1st & 2nd Class. Silver and Gold. I have several samples of the medal. Single red stripe on white ribbon (older style) two red stripes on white ribbon (newer style)

    Bonjour Thierry,

Award criteria are 10 years unremunerated participation in Red Cross activities for the silver class. Silver bars can be added on the ribbon for each 5 years extra.

The gold class is awarded to recipients of the silver class for 25 years of unpaid service. Again silver bars can be added per 5 years extra (max. 2 bars) and a gold bar is awarded in lieu of a third silver bar (thus rewarding 40 years).

Foreigners would more likely receive the 1st class for "special dedication" or something similar which does not require those years of service.

My immediate records indicate that the earlier award was 1880-1940. I will get into the books and see if I can give you a better answer.

Can you please shed some light on these 2 neck orders?

Are they awarded for giving blood, if so, how many gallons? Or are they part of the Order of the Belgian red Cross?

What is the significance of the devices onm the ribbon?

    Hello Frank,

According to my information: silver palms & silver pelican = 160 blooddonations or 300 plasmgifts

golden palms & golden pelican = 190 blooddonations or 700 plasmgifts

These commandercrosses are named order of solidarity

I don't know what the stars on the ribbon means.

I got this info from the Red Cross. If you want to I can send you a list, but i'm afraid it's written in dutch. If other gents want to have a scan of the list, send me a PM.

190 blood donations? Man! That would fill a 45 gallon drum!

Is the list in Dutch a scan or in electronic format that could be copied and pasted into an e-translator? My Ducth sucks... I only remember this "twee frikandellen met friet alstublieft"...

    "met mayonaise of Pickles?"

No that's a joke of course. If you send me your mailaddress i'll send the list. I tried to attach the list here, but becomes too small and difficult to read.

Don't worry, I'll help you to translate.
