Gold Party Pin Guy Posted February 7, 2006 Posted February 7, 2006 Here's an uncommon if not rare badge for the German Christian Church, a small movement of north German Protestant Nazi supporters who got together to influence the election of local Bishops. The badge is beautifully gilded, almost a fire gilt.
Scowen Posted February 7, 2006 Posted February 7, 2006 Very nice indeed Stephen & very intersting. I have often wondered about the the background of this badge (beyound the obvious Christian link). Do you have any further info on this group? CheersDon
BURGERHAUS Posted February 7, 2006 Posted February 7, 2006 What a nicely made badge. Willimerten is not a maker I have in my collection. I don't see it on the RZM maker list either. Perhaps an alliance with organized religion excluded them from party sanctioned badge making. Just a thought. Irregardless a beautiful badge and I would love to see a party badge with that red enamelling. Does any one have any other pieces by this maker. Thanks for showing this and have a good day. Robert
Gold Party Pin Guy Posted February 7, 2006 Author Posted February 7, 2006 (edited) Thanks, Don, I do have more information about the group if I can get my hands on the right reference book. By the way, it turns out J.R. Cone's description of the Deutschen Christen in his enamels book is not quite accurate, so I'll see if I can find it.There is a also second version of this badge where it is missing the inner wreath inside the swastika. Rosenberg Posted February 7, 2006 Posted February 7, 2006 This is truly a gem!I have never seen that before, thanks for showing.Regards
BURGERHAUS Posted August 31, 2007 Posted August 31, 2007 (edited) Gents Look what I found! It remained on Detlev's site until 11:30 Friday. A finely crafted badge if I do say so myself. Robert PS The lower right arm of the Swastika is not chipped. Just a dustbunny on my scanner from lack of use. Edited June 10, 2015 by Scowen
Scowen Posted August 31, 2007 Posted August 31, 2007 (edited) Congratulations Robert! Here's mine, I've had it for a while but never really been comfortable with it. I can't decide whether it's just a different die or worse....... I can't put my finger on it but it doesn't "feel" right. The pin type is different as well.CheersDon Edited June 10, 2015 by Scowen
BURGERHAUS Posted August 31, 2007 Posted August 31, 2007 Don Do you mean the attaching pin and plate or the face of the badge itself? The diferences I see between our 3 badges on the front is waer of the black, especially the arms with the small ys on the end. There are traces of them on my example just barely visible under a loup. Stephens has worn away a bit also but the ys can still be seen with the naked eye. I will search for more diferences as time permits. Feel free to move mine around as you wish for a side by side view of front and reverse. Robert
Scowen Posted September 3, 2007 Posted September 3, 2007 Yes. If you look at the clasp end of the pin, you will see that mine utilises a double loop rather than the more usual curved over end.CheersDon
BURGERHAUS Posted September 3, 2007 Posted September 3, 2007 Don I notice too a larger gap between the I and the M in Willi Merten. Perhaps as you suggest a diferent die. Cheers Robert
Duzig Posted September 4, 2007 Posted September 4, 2007 Hello all,It seems as if Willi Merten is the only maker of these badges,is this correct or have others seen different manufacturers of these badges? ThanksDuzig(Bill)
Scowen Posted September 4, 2007 Posted September 4, 2007 Hi Bill. From what I've seen Merten is the only named maker, I've also seen one with just Ges.Gesch. Cheers Don
Duzig Posted September 5, 2007 Posted September 5, 2007 Hello,Don thanks for the confirmation on that. Of the few I've seen Merten was the only makers mark so was just wondering. Thanks again for the info.Bill
BURGERHAUS Posted February 9, 2008 Posted February 9, 2008 Gents I noticed today one of these marked Paulman & Crone. It looked about 2 weeks old. Robert
srn Posted November 4, 2010 Posted November 4, 2010 Friends, I welcome! Very rare manufacturer of this sign.
Scowen Posted November 4, 2010 Posted November 4, 2010 Very interesting Sergey, I have never seen this badge with another maker. I hope you do not mind, I have moved the other badge to a new thread here: http://gmic.co.uk/index.php?showtopic=46485 Thank you for posting it. Cheers Don
AlecH Posted January 1, 2013 Posted January 1, 2013 Second from last buy of 2012 - Willi Merten made badge, an pricey item if buying through a dealer.
IanScott Posted June 9, 2015 Posted June 9, 2015 I have also seen them with NO MAKER MARK, have access to one right now. cheers scott
Rouflab Posted March 4, 2022 Posted March 4, 2022 I have had 4 of these in my collecting career of 45 years sold 2 on and kept 2.
Scowen Posted March 11, 2022 Posted March 11, 2022 Hi Rouflab, Welcome to the forum. Which ones do you mean, the Merten made pieces or the Paulman & Crone? Thanks Don
