JapanX Posted November 11, 2012 Posted November 11, 2012 This is how original 4th class kite looks like with non-original ribbon
JapanX Posted November 11, 2012 Posted November 11, 2012 But something tells me that Chris isn`t really interested in order ribbons... Only medals Well, if there are replacement ribbons for medals, than they have the same characteristics as modern replacement ribbons for orders. Cheers, Nick
Dieter3 Posted November 11, 2012 Posted November 11, 2012 But one should always remember that cavalier could bought replacement ribbon for his order or medal. Anytime he or she felt like doing so. Here how this replacement ribbons (and original pockets for them) looked like. That is a great photo - collection of replacements with pockets! Here comes a nice example. Is this really light blue? Well, I'd call it a bluish-grey. The rosette is more of a light blue!
JapanX Posted November 11, 2012 Posted November 11, 2012 That is a great photo - collection of replacements with pockets! Courtesy of Nick Komiya Well, I'd call it a bluish-grey. The rosette is more of a light blue! Different colors of rosette and ribbon ... Usual story with sacred treasure! Different manufacturers (very likely scenario)? Nice piece!
Dieter3 Posted November 11, 2012 Posted November 11, 2012 Here are a couple of interesting 1874 ribbons - old style eye, "new" style hook attached in ribbon fold! I think these are replacment ribbons.
JapanX Posted November 11, 2012 Posted November 11, 2012 Yep, I am familiar with these two specimens The right one definitely has a replica ribbon. The left one is more promising, but it could be a later replacement (but pretty old one)
Gensui Posted November 11, 2012 Author Posted November 11, 2012 Nick, great job! Highly appreciate your overview! But something tells me that Chris isn`t really interested in order ribbons... Only medals Don't listen to "something" :P
Gensui Posted November 11, 2012 Author Posted November 11, 2012 How about your thoughts about below photo of this ribbon? There are one (big) point, I'm wondering about, but won't tell you yet. BTW, it's a ribbon of a Const. Medal. BR, Chris
JapanX Posted November 12, 2012 Posted November 12, 2012 (edited) BTW, it's a ribbon of a Const. Medal. No prompting! How about your thoughts about below photo of this ribbon? I don't think that this is original ribbon. But the gear came from the right period. Somebody tried to do his/her best while attaching this old gear to the ribbon Moire is wrong + original ribbon has small red stripes at the sides. Cheers, Nick Edited November 12, 2012 by JapanX
Gensui Posted November 12, 2012 Author Posted November 12, 2012 Moire is wrong + original ribbon has small red stripes at the sides. Bingo! That was my same thought! ;)
JapanX Posted November 14, 2012 Posted November 14, 2012 Just in case. Two examples of modern replacement ribbons for sacred treasure order
JapanX Posted November 20, 2012 Posted November 20, 2012 By the way, not only early ribbons of Sacred Treasure show color instability, but even early official posters
JapanX Posted November 20, 2012 Posted November 20, 2012 Or this chart.... At least we see orange stripes here ...
Gensui Posted November 20, 2012 Author Posted November 20, 2012 Thank god, I have a red-green blindness
JapanX Posted November 21, 2012 Posted November 21, 2012 Thank god, I have a red-green blindness With famous "burning test" around who needs these colors anyway
