    An interesting perspective on "hooks and eyes" could be obtained from Manchu red cross medal that was introduced (according to Peterson) in 1938.

    No "standard gear" in sight folks ;)

    Same story with worn out ribbons and replacement, brand new one`s .

    Here comes a nice example from my collection

    On the left is "old" ribbon and on the right brand new replacement ribbon (authentic one of course ;))

    Actually the only ribbon that I saw without early ("early" in case of official japanese orders and medals) "sewed" style of gear attachement is this one. One with the glued stripes ... :)
