Chris Liontas Posted December 1, 2012 Posted December 1, 2012 I thought this might be a great place to share aviation collectable from the First World War. Aviation was one of the true firsts in World War I, and it is amazing to see how the aircraft and technology changed from 1916 to 1918. I know there are several of us that collect aviation related articles, if you have anything to share please do.
Chris Boonzaier Posted December 1, 2012 Posted December 1, 2012 Oh COME ON.... I know what this is all about..... You are just looking for a way to show a ragged bit of canvas..... or am I wrong ;-)
peter monahan Posted December 6, 2012 Posted December 6, 2012 Chris L Just ignore Chris B. He's just upset that he can't fit his Fokker triplane into the garage. I agree that aviation is often ignored by WWI enthusiasts caught up in the muddy details of trench warfare. OTOH, the very first military adventure/history book I ever read was about "Renfrew of the Mounted [Police], who left off chasing criminals around frozen northern Canada to fly a Sopwith Camel against the dastardly Hun. I think I was ten! As you say, the advanxces in technology fuelled by the air war are hard to overemphasize. I'd be quite interested in some shots your collection, even the ragged canvas, as I'm sure others would be as well.
Clive Vincent Posted December 17, 2012 Posted December 17, 2012 This is an area I have always neglected really, I've tended to get stuck in a particular field of research and npt really given much thought to reading up on the development of air combat. Ragged piece of canvas? Intriguing!
Chris Boonzaier Posted December 17, 2012 Posted December 17, 2012 "Ragged piece of canvas? Intriguing!" IOndeed... he has a very intruiging ragged pioece of Canvas I have only ever heard about.... :-)
Clive Vincent Posted December 19, 2012 Posted December 19, 2012 Is he loathe to share his canvas? WW1 Pilot's tent flap maybe?
Chris Boonzaier Posted December 19, 2012 Posted December 19, 2012 Is he loathe to share his canvas? WW1 Pilot's tent flap maybe? He has something that would make even a non collector drool ;-)
W McSwiggan Posted December 19, 2012 Posted December 19, 2012 What a great prophet! I'm drooling... come on - bring it on! BTW - one of my favorite early readings was "Falcons of France".
Chris Boonzaier Posted December 19, 2012 Posted December 19, 2012 While we are waiting ;-) For me this was THE hardest, gritiest WW1 Aviation novel ever... http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Goshawk_Squadron His WW2 RAF Novel "Piece of cake" is even darker and grittier...
