Chris Boonzaier Posted October 24, 2012 Posted October 24, 2012 OK, the Saxon arrived today.... It seems to be zink. Along with the makers mark it is stamped 1915 on the back. What I really like is the 12.J. stamp on the bottom ;-) Just saw that when it arrived...

According to some expert German buckle collectors, the two-piece buckles (with the applied roundels) in gray are the very earliest ones and just steel extensions of the M95. Supposedly, the later one-piece versions are post 1915. Chip

A French buckle collector I met at a show said he had never had one with a leathe tab. From memory the green one had a different tab. I traded it to killer2lamour on the French forum Best Chris

There is an obvious downside, smetimes it is not possible to see right off the bat which comments relate to which buckle, but I had to take tha into account as some of the single buckle threads were lost waaaaaay back in the back pages.
