I have a Saxon one on the way in the mail, will post it when it gets here.

Am I correct in thinking that Steel ones are 1915 model?

I have seen Hessen steel ones with a green and with a silver-grey finish... is there a difference?

OK, the Saxon arrived today.... It seems to be zink. Along with the makers mark it is stamped 1915 on the back.

What I really like is the 12.J. stamp on the bottom ;-) Just saw that when it arrived...

    Chris,

Are you telling us you bought it not knowing it was unit marked? Seriously? :speechless:

Would you show us the maker's stamps on the leather tabs?

According to some expert German buckle collectors, the two-piece buckles (with the applied roundels) in gray are the very earliest ones and just steel extensions of the M95. Supposedly, the later one-piece versions are post 1915.

    Hi Chip,

Indded! The seller had 2 different "buy it now" sales, a Prissian buckle for EUR55, and this one for EUR55...

No mention of stamps at all.

There is nothing visible on the leather tab

S'funny, i had a green Hessen Metal one (Dont know why there are green and grey) and it also had a tab with a maker.

A French buckle collector I met at a show said he had never had one with a leathe tab.

From memory the green one had a different tab. I traded it to killer2lamour on the French forum

I have merged a number of threads, some long forgotten.

There is an obvious downside, smetimes it is not possible to see right off the bat which comments relate to which buckle, but I had to take tha into account as some of the single buckle threads were lost waaaaaay back in the back pages.
