Chris Boonzaier Posted January 29, 2014 Author Posted January 29, 2014 and I will give up drinking, wild women Hmmmm.... Age has done that for me..... Is married life like being on Death Row WITHOUT Religion?!?!?!?
paja Posted January 29, 2014 Posted January 29, 2014 Serbian and Bulgarian soldiers stopped hostilities, left the trenches and met on the no man's land where they wished a Happy Eater to each other and exchanged food and tobacco. This happened during Great War - 1917, and there is a description of this event in the book "Serbian Trilogy" by Stevan Jakovljević (orig. title "Српска трилогија" Стеван Јаковљевић).
paja Posted January 29, 2014 Posted January 29, 2014 There is a very good movie about a similar event that happened on the Western Front: http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0424205/?ref_=fn_al_tt_2
paja Posted January 29, 2014 Posted January 29, 2014 The former Yugoslavia comes to mind........ Larry No to go any further in that direction I just want to point out that you have to bear in mind that this is a very specific region where a strong connection between religion and national identity exists.
peter monahan Posted February 1, 2014 Posted February 1, 2014 Gee, sounds like the place my forebears came from: Northern Ireland! But, no, lets not go down that road except to note, perhaps, that in an age when most people actually took religion seriously it was inevitable, I think, that God and religion would get co-opted for political ends. We won't even go to the Crusades!
