J Temple-West Posted February 2, 2013 Posted February 2, 2013 Instituted by "Der Oberbefehlshaber der Luftwaffe Reichsmarschall Hermann Göring" for Outstanding Achievements in the Technical branch of the Luftwaffe.
Paul R Posted February 2, 2013 Posted February 2, 2013 That is a nice award. What is it for? I like the detail on the engravings
J Temple-West Posted February 3, 2013 Author Posted February 3, 2013 It was awarded to those whose actions were deemed to be in the furtherance of the luftwaffe war effort but not directly involved in military operations. A good example would be those awarded to members of the "Werk West" team at Peenemünde who were involved in the development of the V1/V2 rockets; scientists, designers, technical support staff etc. Hanna Reitsch also received her award for her work at Peenemünde as test pilot on the Messerschmitt Me 163 program.
