Hungarian present photo albumto german officer

    Recommended Posts

This is István Horthy, Horthy's oldest son who was killed in a suspicious plane crash in Ausust of 1942. According to the testimony German ground personell worked on his RE-2000 fighter before his final flight. It crashed shortly after take-off in Pula, Russia. Its is suspected that his death was a warning to Horthy as the Regent was secretly looking to find an armistice and truce with the Allies. So - it would stand to say the photo album is prior to that time period.

The officer on the left side in front is Gen. Gusztáv Jány the commander of the 2nd Army.

Otherwise it is an intresting photo because Horthy wears a Riverine Guard uniform. In most cases he was wore in his old Austro-Hungarian Admiral suit.

1st Field Armored Division equipped with 108 T-38 and 22 Pz IV. tanks. I think the Germans on the pictures were the instructors.

The abbrevation Ht. szd. means Haditudósító Század = War Correspondent Company

The photographers: Corporal Hollenzer Béla, Lance-Corporal Keresztény Tivadar, Private Inkey Tibor. They where professional photographers who called up for military service.

The commander of the company was Major Konok Tamás.

    Do you think his overcoat?

It's called körgallér = cape. A lighter and comfortable alternative of the greatcoat for mess dress and undress for officers and after 1940 for professional NCOs. LtCol Konok wears the pre-1940 version.

unknown vehicle with hungarian soldiers and german helmets

    attachicon.gifung7.jpg

The vehicle is a Rába Botond (officiallay: Botond 1938M mintájú terepjáró rajgépkocsi), the most successful product of the WWII-era Hungarian war industry.

    Some details and photos:

The helmet's shell was the same as the german but the liner was hungarian-made. Note the different ventilation holes and the lug on the nape.
