andy Posted February 22, 2013 Posted February 22, 2013 (edited) I have a small collection of LV marked crosses and was wandering what marks others have. Mine are: LV2 LV12 LV24-Double Maker Marked LV51 LV65 LV82 LV88 sorry some of the close ups are not so good-Best I could get with the camera Would love to see yours and also any thoughts as to why these crosses are marked in this way regards andy Edited February 22, 2013 by andy
saschaw Posted February 22, 2013 Posted February 22, 2013 The numbers stand much more liekly each for a single small firm, as "LV" seems to be the "Lieferverband für das Eiserne Kreuz", a pooling of (probably) small suppliers.
Chris Boonzaier Posted February 22, 2013 Posted February 22, 2013 What Sascha says sound like a good theory. It would reinforce the theory that the stamps were there as part of a control system as opposed to advertising? I am betting though... given the relatively small % of LV crosses in the mass... that they did not have up to 88 small firms making for them?
Tony Posted February 25, 2013 Posted February 25, 2013 I have LV S E. It's probably the sharpest strike of all my crosses. No photos I'm afraid and I know I have more than just that example, unfortunately I haven't noted the maker stamps of the others. Tony
