JBFloyd Posted July 8, 2013 Posted July 8, 2013 This is patterned after the Order of the Cross of Takovo; silvered and gilt, with white enamel. The central device is the Serbian seal. Unmarked for metallic content or maker. The piece feels relatively modern. Does anyone recognize this one? A bauble from a pretender to the Serbian throne, perhaps
paul wood Posted July 8, 2013 Posted July 8, 2013 Never seen it before the crown looks nothing like the Serb Crowns on the OrdersPaul
paja Posted July 8, 2013 Posted July 8, 2013 (edited) Could be something related to Greece as well. Flag with 4 Bs (Basileus Basileon Basileuon Basileuonton) was first used by Palaiologos of the Byzantine Empire. Regards, Radmilo Edited July 8, 2013 by paja
Guest Rick Research Posted July 8, 2013 Posted July 8, 2013 It certainly looks nice, which is a change from most modern OFFICIAL stuff. Given the direct Takovo "X" imagery could this be the former-Yugoslav exile's... now that there isn't a Yugoslavia any more... something new back to the Serbian heartland? There can't (unlike zose Frainchs!) be any dispute about who "would" be King, surely? Is it hot enamel rather than the modern plastenamel goop?
paul wood Posted July 8, 2013 Posted July 8, 2013 This I found on another website"The only "Palaeologos" claimant I have heard of is Mr Henri Vigo Paleologo, a former hairdresser from Genoa, a confidence trickster who sells titles and orders to gullible Americans and Japanese."Could this be the origin of the piece.Paul
paja Posted July 9, 2013 Posted July 9, 2013 (edited) I am not sure but I believe that Karađorđevićs continued to award decorations from the Kingdom of Yugoslavia while they were in exile. But this certainly had nothing to do with them, Cross of Takovo was decoration of the rival dynasty. There are some living descendants of the Obrenović family (I think Miloš's half brother Jakov descendants) but I think this has nothing to do with them either. By the way in 2009 new law on decorations instituted Order of Sretenje (Сретењски орден - 3 grades) with Order of the Cross of Takovo as it's model. Here are just couple of pictures of it. http://gmic.co.uk/uploads/monthly_07_2013/post-7937-0-27016000-1373393467.jpghttp://gmic.co.uk/uploads/monthly_07_2013/post-7937-0-97186500-1373393541.jpghttp://gmic.co.uk/uploads/monthly_07_2013/post-7937-0-07850000-1373393508.jpg Edited July 9, 2013 by paja
