paul wood Posted September 10, 2013 Posted September 10, 2013 What's the provenance of the two gartered stars?Paul
JapanX Posted September 10, 2013 Author Posted September 10, 2013 I think A-I. He was made a knight in 1813.... Another St. Andrew the First-Called combined with the breast star of the Order of the Garter (from Hermitage collection and this one is certainly his )
paul wood Posted September 11, 2013 Posted September 11, 2013 Thanks Nick, nice to see Garter attachments that are obviously genuine. The late Ernst Blass created dozens of such insigniaPaul
kimj Posted September 11, 2013 Posted September 11, 2013 Nice photos! Thanks for sharing Nick! I have to comment the display of Alexander I's awards. The museum people has turned the sword of the "knight of the grand cross 1st class" up side down. Alex knew what side was up. /Kim
JapanX Posted September 12, 2013 Author Posted September 12, 2013 He knew ... Or maybe it was Dawe George (who painted this portrait)? Seriously though, I have somewhere black-and-white photo of the very same combistar that we observe on Dawe portrait. St. Andrew the First-Called + Order of the Garter + Order of Sword. Will post it in a couple of days ;)
JapanX Posted September 12, 2013 Author Posted September 12, 2013 Thanks Nick, nice to see Garter attachments that are obviously genuine. Have somewhere photo of St.Vladimir combined with Garter that belonged to Nikolay I. Will post it soon
