This is noting exotic, but I thought someone could help identify what medals these ribbons might be for. I'm not a medals guy and only know the basics. Would this more likely be an officer's or an NCOs bar? Thanks in advance.

Most likely an officer-- some grade of BMV4 with swords, Iron Cross, Prussian Hohenzollern House Order (X), 1905 Bavarian army Luipold Jubilee Medal and a Bavarian army long service award. Since there are NO devices, this is a fshion statement bar. The first ribbon often bore no device if simply the expected swords... and perhaps he found the thought of swords AND a crown on the third ribbon would overshadow his native award. Or the first one was a BMV4XKr too and he just didn't want to snag on little prickly devices.

The middle ribbon can't be anything else on this bar. A truly nice one.

    Hello,

a NCO's bar is possably. MVK, EK2 and Preussisches Militärehrenzeichen, but an officers-bar is also possably.

    regards Andreas

I agree with Rick this could hardly be anything else than the HOH3X. With no apparent colonial service, a Prussian Militär-Ehrenzeichen can be excluded. Those were not awarded during the "Great War".

I'm not sure, but were any Bavarian NCOs awarded the Prussian Militärverdienstkreuz? And if so, would they not have to have some higher Bavarian award as well, like the bravery medal?

    Hi Sascha,

I am not aware of ANY Bavarian enlisted or NCO with the Prussian MVK.

There was one with the Hohenzollern Inhaber with swords - legendary Max Müller, but thats all.

    Best,

Thanks, Daniel. As I assumed! This certainly nails the HOH3X for this bar, and makes its former wearer an officer, and not an enlisted man or a non-commissioned officer in the Bavarian army.

    ;)
