    Version 1.1. Far less than perfect - help!!!

    Hi! My name is Nasaa. I think your item no.8 should read "shudraga juram medal", something like "Civic Duty" or "Public order" medal. "Shudraga" means honest or upright, "juram" means system or order.

    Thank you, Nasaa. And welcome to the forum!! As you see, we need help from someone who knows the language.

    I am really (really) grateful for this, for I think we have (finally) captured teh real name of the "Medal for Unselfishness"!

    Many thanks! Always appreciate any help in refining these confusing (to most of us) names.

    I don't think we know precisely where the various titles ("People's . . . .") fall in the order. I have simply taken them in the order that Dr. Battushig addresses them.

    Someone needs to dig out some documentation here.

    Again, many thanks!

    There are a lot of small errors and typo's in that last PDF. I think this should be the correct names, transliterations and translations of the top Mongolian Orders and medals. The Hero Stars are difficult.

    Sukhbaataryn odon

    Order of Sukhe Bator

    Khodolmoryn gavyany ulaan tugyn odon

    Order of the Red Banner of Labor Valor

одон

    ?Altan gadas? odon

    Order of the Polar Star

    Tsergyn gavyany ulaan tugyn odon

    Order of the Red Banner of Military Valor

    (Others sources have other names for this award:

    Байлдааны гавьяаны улаан тугын одон

    Baildaany gavyany ulaan tugyn odon

    Order of the Red Banner of Combat Valor)

    Tsergyn gavyany odon

    Order of Military Valor

    Aldart ekh 1 dugeer odon

    Order of Mother Heroine 1st Class

    Aldart ekh 2 dugaar odon

    Order of Mother Heroine 2nd Class

    Khodolmoryn khundet medal

    Honorary Medal of Labor

    Цэргийн хүндэт медаль

    Tsergyn khundet medal

    Honorary Medal of Combat

    Baildaany = Combat

    Khodolmoryn = Labor

    Gavyany = Valor

    Ulaan tugyn = Red Banner

    Tsergyn = Military

    Khundet = Honorary

    Baatar = Hero

    Thanks, Ferdinand. I will try to confirm these.

    So often, alas, the names are rendered in Russian (and in Russian Cyrillic), as if the Mongolians spoke Russian.

    It is my understanding that Battuishig will include the Mongolian names in the next edition. Getting accurate names is, of course, a problem, especially for awards outside the core that inspire the greatest coillector interest. These require getting award documents, which is a real problem at times.

    Indeed Ed. Just look at the catalogues of Dietrich Herfurth, where all the 'original Mongolian names' are actually translated Russian names... :unsure:

    It will be great to have these names confirmed by the expert(s)!

    Careful with Sukhe Bator and Ulan Bator, Mongolians themselves now use a new prefered spelling for these: Sukhbaatar and Ulaanbaatar
