lordpage Posted August 8, 2013 Posted August 8, 2013 This is the cloth German Cross in gold of Major Adolf Mugge. Since acquiring this cross I have found out the following information on Major Mugge. Born 01.16.1907, DKig Mügge,Adolf, 08.11.1943, /Gren Major, I..Rgt. 590 Major Mugge Army Honor roll 27.071944.11./Gren.Rgt 1057 Sadly Major Mugge did not survive the war, I have not found out the circumstances of his death but I know he is buried in the Wehl Cemetery near Hameln Germany which is appropriate for me as I kept pet rats for 20 years(Pied Piper).I want to travel to visit his grave at some point and have donated to the German war graves commission in memory of all the brave men who died fighting for their country. The cloth cross has lost or never had the twisted bullion thread around the wreath but has that well known Junker wreath with the die flaw on the 9.I have also found there are enough unique variations to determine it is the cross in the photograph and not from his other uniform.I would appreciate any further information on Major Mugge. Jon Major, killed 28.9.1944, buried in field E III 6 http://translate.google.co.uk/translate?hl=en&sl=de&u=http://www.gelderblom-hameln.de/historischeorte/friedhoefe/wehl/16namends.html&prev=/search%3Fq%3Dmajor%2Badolf%2Bmugge%26start%3D10%26sa%3DN%26rlz%3D1C1SVEE_enGB535%26biw%3D1280%26bih%3D635 http://gmic.co.uk/uploads/monthly_08_2013/post-16001-0-60416300-1375974208.jpghttp://gmic.co.uk/uploads/monthly_08_2013/post-16001-0-36506700-1375974234.jpghttp://gmic.co.uk/uploads/monthly_08_2013/post-16001-0-81004900-1375974216.jpg non water marked photos for archives and databases available on request.
Chris Boonzaier Posted August 9, 2013 Posted August 9, 2013 Hi, It would be Muegge, an "Ü" is "UE" .... so he is Moogge (but a short "oo" as if the Monty Python "Knights who say NI!" were to say Moo... ) Best Chris
lordpage Posted August 10, 2013 Author Posted August 10, 2013 Thanks for that Chris,I have been meaning to find out the correct pronunciation. JOn
