JapanX Posted October 17, 2013 Posted October 17, 2013 (edited) I do not believe that the breast star was wrongly plated. We were talking about gild on breast star superimposed badge - not about gild on rays dear Richard ;) Edited October 17, 2013 by JapanX
Taganrog Posted October 17, 2013 Posted October 17, 2013 You meant it? http://www.benemerenti.de/php/us_vorschau.php?lnr=20&wnr=MAN If "yes", result of the auction № 0906 9.000,00 € + 23% = 11010 Euro On a photo from the Bene Merenti auction it is visible , that diameter of a ring is less than diameter at a yesterday's badge About 16 mm The ring is got to the core! At the Bene Merenti auction collecting from the 2nd and 3rd class. Yesterday sold the extremely rare, original badge Here it is well visible diameter of a ring the 3rd class http://sammler.ru/index.php?showtopic=131507 Here additional photos http://sammler.ru/index.php?showtopic=131561 http://sammler.ru/index.php?showtopic=131892 http://sammler.ru/index.php?showtopic=133380

JapanX Posted October 17, 2013 Posted October 17, 2013 On a photo from the Bene Merenti auction it is visible , that diameter of a ring is less than diameter at a yesterday's badge About 16 mm Seriously?! Looks more like 16,25 mm to me The ring is got to the core! Yep. Original ring should be soldered.
Taganrog Posted October 17, 2013 Posted October 17, 2013 Рaul wood. Try once again. http://sammler.ru/index.php?showtopic=131507 http://sammler.ru/index.php?showtopic=131892 http://sammler.ru/index.php?showtopic=133380 http://sammler.ru/index.php?showtopic=131561
JapanX Posted October 17, 2013 Posted October 17, 2013 By the way, another interesting feature of this 1st class set set from BM is that breast star "hallmarked with a swan". So we know that this breast star made a trip to France I wonder why badge is not hallmarked with the same mark
Taganrog Posted October 17, 2013 Posted October 17, 2013 (edited) Seriously?! Looks more like 16,25 mm to me It isn't necessary to sneer Ring measured at auction at the request of the buyer! Edited October 17, 2013 by Taganrog
JapanX Posted October 17, 2013 Posted October 17, 2013 (edited) I bet this potential buyer is currently among us  Edited October 17, 2013 by JapanX
Taganrog Posted October 17, 2013 Posted October 17, 2013 "The ring was measured on the request of potential buyer" I bet this potential buyer is currently among us JapanХYou almost guessed !It was measured for my friend Eugene.
JapanX Posted October 17, 2013 Posted October 17, 2013 I remember this guy ... we were like brothers once So. Let's sum up. The ring is cut and has slightly smaller diameter. Badge doesn't have "swan" mark that breast star has. A little bit alarming ...

JapanX Posted October 17, 2013 Posted October 17, 2013 (edited) Nick " " Seriously?! Read a very long texts Japan10 - a waste of time And who you are such ... Didn't hear about such "expert" But this one from Sammler is undoubtedly "на GMIC один завсегдатай выставляет сразу в свои темы все фото более или менее интересных предметов с эбея или яху. Причём в первый же день их появления на торгах,а тому кто реально их купил уже нечего ставить, т.к. они уже есть в темах!" Edited October 17, 2013 by JapanX
JapanX Posted October 17, 2013 Posted October 17, 2013 I think that goes without saying. Now something reeeeeeaaaaaaly interesting. Please open your Peterson (3rd edition) on page 148. See this black-and-white picture of 1st class? Now take a good loooooong look at the badge It has double ring construction!
utopis Posted October 17, 2013 Author Posted October 17, 2013 Yep, you're right. Nonetheless I don't think that these were really gcs. Especially since a badge with a 3rd class construction will twist on a sash. The swan mark on the set from bm is really interesting, indeed. Looks like another put together group. The sash was a replacement, anyway. @Taganrok: No, not this one. "Recently", as I put it was a year or two back, if I remember correctly.
JapanX Posted October 17, 2013 Posted October 17, 2013 Nonetheless I don't think that these were really gcs. Same feelings here! P.S. gcs - good complete set? Tricky!
Taganrog Posted October 17, 2013 Posted October 17, 2013 Why to quote my phrases? I didn't quote your words about me. Here discuss an award Николай! Как сказал один наш с тобой общий знакомый: "Time heals all wounds".
JapanX Posted October 17, 2013 Posted October 17, 2013 Why to quote my phrases? I didn't quote your words about me. Please feel free to quote any of "my words" ... I don't have any "разборки" with anybody, especially with you Если бы по-честному,то взял бы и прокомментировал потом результат торгов. Please fell free to do it right now Me and my "mashine- gun" posting again ... Guess there is a special place in hell for people like me P.S. But you get one thing right - this thread is about 1st class pillars and not about about your (or mine) current "feelings", Sammler or its owner. P.P.S. Since we are once again "best buddies forever" I will greatly appreciate if you stop mention my name on forums where I can answer to your gentle posts.
Taganrog Posted October 17, 2013 Posted October 17, 2013
JapanX Posted October 17, 2013 Posted October 17, 2013 Please stop posting in russian. Not to mention that we are both agreed that this thread is devoted to 1st class pillars ...
drclaw Posted October 18, 2013 Posted October 18, 2013 (edited) Back in 2011, I was contemplating a cased 1st Class set being offered by an Italian auction house. The lacquer case and inscriptions were well kept as was the original sash. It would have been a superb set but for one minor detail - the red enamel of the star looked like a LUNAR LANDSCAPE! It was pitted and crumbling with white spots covering its entire surface. While enamel rot is frequently encountered with the Nanjing Puppet Government awards, it's not something you'd expect for Kyoto Mint insignia. But evidently this can happen. Who knows what the unique conditions causing it were - bad batch of enamels, incorrect curing process, set stored in a damp cellar the last 60 years ... Edited October 19, 2013 by drclaw

drclaw Posted October 18, 2013 Posted October 18, 2013 Alas no. I don't recall it being sold so it could well turn up again in the near future.
