azyeoman Posted October 12, 2013 Posted October 12, 2013 I came across this on a site and wondered what you gentleman think of it. Attractive, but most certainly a very odd combination and perhaps even a unique one.
Chris Boonzaier Posted October 12, 2013 Posted October 12, 2013 Very interesting indeed! When does the Lebanese medal date from?
azyeoman Posted October 12, 2013 Author Posted October 12, 2013 (edited) The National Order of the Cedar is a civil and military state order of Lebanon. It was established on 31 December 1936 and is the second highest honour of Lebanon and is presented five grades. The order is now regulated by the Lebanese Code of Decorations as set out in Decree-Law 122 of 12 June 1959. It is usually awarded, by the President of the Republic of Lebanon, for “great services rendered to Lebanon, for acts of courage and devotion of great moral value, as for years in public service”. The one pictured is that of an "Officer", which is the fourth class medal. It seems this medal was given to many recipients of various nationalities who were primarily involved in the arts, sports and humanitarian efforts. Edited October 12, 2013 by azyeoman
Chris Boonzaier Posted October 13, 2013 Posted October 13, 2013 So, the guy seems not to have applied for a Ehrenkreuz, or did so late, after having recieved this?
dond Posted October 13, 2013 Posted October 13, 2013 Perhaps he emigrated to Lebanon after WW1 and never applied for a Hindy.....
