fukuoka Posted December 22, 2013 Posted December 22, 2013 (edited) Full disclosure: I am the seller listing the badge on ebay now, so maybe I am biased. However, the nature of the inscription itself bothers me. As I stated before, this type of inscription does not seem appropriate for an award badge of this nature. Look at the other Navy and Army awards--this kind of general inscription is nowhere to be found. However, as stated above too, this inscription is found on many other wartime commemoratives that were sold to the public. Also, why would different casts be made in what amounts to less than one year of awarding (if Sept 1944 was the first award)? And if this badge is indeed rare, I guess they wouldn't have minted many of them--which means they wouldn't have needed different casts. Edited December 22, 2013 by fukuoka
fukuoka Posted December 22, 2013 Posted December 22, 2013 I think it has a different cast or cast in different time.. By the way, what are the dimensions of your badge?
JapanX Posted December 22, 2013 Posted December 22, 2013 Guys, as I wrote in post # 4 P.S. By the way guys, obverse of this badge (by design) looks like a post-war to me + The pin construction of badge without inscription also looks post-war to me (at least I don't recall seeing such pins on war or pre-war badges) Just my 2 cents
dark379 Posted December 22, 2013 Posted December 22, 2013 By the way, what are the dimensions of your badge? size is 52mm from end to end of wings 30mm height from bottom to tip of sakura

JapanX Posted December 22, 2013 Posted December 22, 2013 Sure Rich, I didn't even notice this nuance and thought "1944" :)
arrestanddevelopment Posted December 30, 2013 Posted December 30, 2013 Hi, Just received the badge . Interesting after the lengthy discussion regarding the pin ....in fact under magnification appears to be a replacement as has been glued on !! ...the pin does not replicate the exceptional quality of this badge which is die struck and has remains of silvering . Patina is excellent and certainly period . pleased to get this rarity even if the pins wrong !!! steve
