Thanks for the feedback, Don. It closely matches the one at the end of Baldes' Bavaria section. I sent detailed scans to Ferg, and he's wary of this one, possibly a late strike. In hand it feels very convincing, but I'm going to send it back, since I'm looking for a good piece from the award period.

With these you must be very cautious. Almost only works in horseshoes and handgrenades.

That's too bad. I've sent it back, and the quest continues. In five years I've only been able to snag one genuine Poellath badge.

took me years to find a real one..you need correct well type, correct pin for maker,correct type face, spokes in wheel etc

Thanks Steve. I actually had a cased Poellath pilot which I found in a Bavarian town in 1979. It was mint and engraved on the reverse with the pilot's name, squadron and date of award. I paid about 50.00 for it. Unfortunately it is long gone, and I wish I had taken pictures of it, it was stunning.
