TacHel Posted December 16, 2013 Posted December 16, 2013 I've had this puppy for quite a while but never got around to asking for an expert opinion on it... It's quite light, almost feels like tin. I've often wondered if it was genuine. Any thoughts?
VtwinVince Posted December 16, 2013 Posted December 16, 2013 Ribbon and ring are not correct, but otherwise looks OK.
TacHel Posted December 24, 2013 Author Posted December 24, 2013 Thanks! I spotted the ribbon but I can't believe I missed the ring!...
redeagleorder Posted December 24, 2013 Posted December 24, 2013 Judging by the colour, this could be the rarer version issued for the Franco-Prussian war to guards of the Prussian GHQ
redeagleorder Posted December 24, 2013 Posted December 24, 2013 (edited) A medal bar with this medal was sold recently by hermann historica: http://www.hermann-historica.de/db2_de/aktuelle-auktion-2.html (can be seen under 'Prussia') Edited December 24, 2013 by redeagleorder
saschaw Posted February 15, 2023 Posted February 15, 2023 (edited) Certainly an old piece, but my guess would be a wearers' copy ("Zweitstück"), due to some minor differences to the official type medals. Most prominent the standard cross above the crown, without the "rays". On 24/12/2013 at 22:52, redeagleorder said: Judging by the colour, this could be the rarer version (...) It wasn't until 1908 that gilt medals came into use. Prior to that, all of these were silver! The Stabswache awards came with another ribbon, that of the Hohenzollern house order, but were otherwise the same. Edited February 15, 2023 by saschaw
