The Prussian
I just recieved this nice photo. It shows a shield, written with "Sturm-Lehrkommando 1916, 18.J.D." This division in 1916, was at the Somme and Artois Edited January 28, 2014 by The Prussian
Chris Boonzaier
Very nice indeed... I wonder who the trainers were?
The Prussian
Hi Chris! Maybe each of them were trainers. I only see NCO´s. I wonder, if the wounded man was injured in action, or training, or if he´s got simple tooth-ache... Chris Boonzaier
Well, great picture, but what was the idea behing "Sturm-Lehrkommando" ? What was the role of such unit? Hi, The Sturmbataillon were supposed to traim themselves out of a job... a Train the trainer kind of deal.... Train Cadre who could then train at Divisional or regimental level... I am guessing this is a divisional lever training group.
The Prussian
That´s right. Each division had their own "Divisions-Sturmabteilungen". A lot of of them were trained by the official Sturm-Bataillone. That´s why I now think, these are not the trainers. Sturm-Bataillone (normally) wore the special trousers with leather (Lederbesatz). Here are a few examples of divisional Sturmabteilung stamps
Marcin L
Thanks Chris. So now I think its like Top-Gun, isn't it? :-) Andy - great pictures, never seen "Sturm Lehr Gang" unit before. Really interesting. Marcin
The Prussian
I don´t like the divided word "Lehrgang" (Lehr Gang") If an english speaking fellow reads it, he should think, the german army was full of "gangsters..."
