For a latecomer he sure had an eventful time all documented on Ancestry. Interestingly he also signs himself Andi Vogel in the Regimental ledgers. So it seems this "sturmgruppe" was actually before he made it to the front, it was in the Divisional Feldrekrutendepot, which was more or less a "just behind the front " - advanced Basic training.
