cazack Posted April 30, 2014 Posted April 30, 2014 I have just received a Victory medal awarded to 3987, Sepoy Khanan, 52nd Sikh Regiment, then served in the 2/12th Sikh F.F. I noticed he was also awarded a GSM with Iraq as well Kurdistan Clasps the MIC also lists a GSM / India / 36 - 47what medal would this be? kind regards and thanks Caz
paul wood Posted April 30, 2014 Posted April 30, 2014 I think this is a case of a typographic mistake, I suspect it refers to the IGS 1936-39, NWF 1936-37 clasp. Paul
cazack Posted April 30, 2014 Author Posted April 30, 2014 Hello Paul thanks for that, I was thinking the same regards and thanks Caz
Michael Johnson Posted April 30, 2014 Posted April 30, 2014 No, it is a the medal roll - and 47 is the page number. The medal is the General Service Medal 1918-64. His First War Medals were issued in India, so no MICs in the UK. As far as we know they were destroyed years ago. Hard to tell if he qualified for a 1914-15 Star, but my opinion is no. Michael
King-Emperor Posted July 10, 2014 Posted July 10, 2014 I believe the 52nd earned the 14-15 star on the NW Frontier, but based on this chap's regimental number, as an educated guess he was probably a war time recruit, so I'd agree with Michael that he probably didn't earn the star.
