France unknown medal on a medalbar from a german legionnaire

Hi Gents,

I own a medalbar from a german legionnaire which contains

a medal that I can´t identify.

Every help appeciated.

This is the medal of "prisonniers civils, déportés et otages de la Grande Guerre" (Civilian prisoners, displaced persons and hostages of the Great War), created in 1936.

Impossible for a military award. Possible for civilians living in the French territories invaded by the Germans in 1914-1918.

Must have been so, that this guy was one of them.

Bison is right about this medal being awarded to civilian prisonners during the German occupation of North and Eastern France in the Great War.

It seems to have also been, improperly, added to medal bars by military personnel who had been captured by ennemy forces. This man could have been a prisonner with the Viet.

This would be an UNOFFICIAL addition to an otherwise legitimate group.

Hi Veteran,

as I bought the medal bar from his sister, she

told me, that he was made POW at Dien Bien Phu.

Is it possible that he got this medal by reason of that ?

Here a group of a Belgian Civil, deported for forced work in the Great War, note that he received the French medal.

It looks as if he is wearing the medal in error. I could understand if he were a kid during WW1 and went on to fight in WW2, but he seems too young for that based upon the lack of WW2 medals.
