Possibly, but it was not an award... just a token gesture.... just as if Franck Ribéry gave me one of his Bayern München t_shirts... it would not make me part of the team.

No officer there would have been authorised to make an award... much less to a foreigner ;-)

Yep that's true, Brit officer given iron cross by kind German in trench opposite

I'd be very surprised if it did actually happen as reported in the paper though.
