Serbia, Takovo and St. Sawa - Obligation to return after death 1903

    Hi there,

from a man who died in 1903 there is only one of twelve awards left.

For five of six Prussian and Wuerttemberg meanwhile we found out that the regulations said that the award has to be returned.

The man also got the Serbian Order of St. Sawa and Takovo.

Does anybody know if there was a obligation of return for this order?

    Thanks.

I've never heard of this "return to the state" for Serbian/Croatian/Montenegro/Yugoslavia and it is probably a recipient from another country. To my knowledge Serbia never had such a decree, and if they did have it, it definatley wasn't acted upon in all cases. I know a lot of Croatian/Serbian families that still

have their families orders, some are still buried with the recipient, others were left with the family to pass on to future generations.

At home in my city, the custom when the recipient died was to bury them with their orders/medals.

P.S. It is St. Sava not St. Sawa

Depending on which country and if they let the recipient keep the diploma. Each recipient should receive a award doc.
