Paul C
The one confuses me. I see 1914 EK2 BMV4x Hindenburg w/swords Red Eagle Order - most likely 4 Army 25 Year LSC Army 12 Year LSC Is one of many Austrian awards What is confusing is that the officer was in Prussia/Bayern service in 1897 to get the centennial so by the time the war started he should have been a Hauptmann/Major. If that is correct should he have been award the BMV4x with crown. Also do you think he stayed in between the wars? If so he should be in the 1924 rangliste. spolei
Hello Paul, the MVO has the ribbon for officials (Beamtenband). The class of the MVO depends on the service position not on the rank. The officer could be a prussian and does his war-duty in a bavarian unit, so he got the prussian awards before the war and the EK and MVO at the war. Later he joined the german Wehrmacht. Probably he was a purser or veterinary officer or similar position. cheers Andreas
Paul C
Thank you. That would narrow down the search.
Dave Danner
Veterinarians received the Military Merit Order/Cross on the statute ribbon. A Zahlmeister or similar might fit, in which case you might be looking for a Military Merit Cross 1st Class with Swords on the ribbon for War Merit (BMV5aXB). Are those gilt swords? The Red Eagle ribbon could be for the RAO Medal or the General Honor Decoration, rather than the order. Other categories of Beamten who received the BMV5aXB include Inspektoren (e.g., Lazarett-Inspektor), Sekretäre (e.g. Intendantur-Sekretäre), Oberapotheker, Topographer, Trigonometer, etc. Unlikely to be a Bavarian, due to the lack of a 1905 Jubilee Medal or 1911 Prinz-Regent Luitpold Medal on the Jubilee Medal ribbon. The Austrian ribbon might be the Franz Josef Order or the Golden Merit Cross. He would then have been called back into service as a Wehrmachtbeamter. He wouldn't have served straight through, as he would have 40-year oakleaves in that case.
Paul C
Thanks Dave. Do you think this person would be in the 1929 Intendanturbeamten rangliste? Edited October 22, 2014 by Paul C
Dave Danner
Maybe. But there are a bunch of categories of Beamten besides Intendantur- ones who are not there. The Kriegsranglisten on Ancestry for the 6.Armee and Heeresgruppe Kronprinz Rupprecht might also be a place to look, since there were so many Prussians serving there.
