Chris Boonzaier Posted September 1, 2015 Posted September 1, 2015 Hi,do any of our French members know which British gallantry awards were made by French makers in WW1 and WW2 ? Either for French awardees, Stationed troops or a collectors market. I am thinking Military Cross, MM, DCM...ThanksChris
paul wood Posted September 2, 2015 Posted September 2, 2015 I have seen French made DSO, DSC, DSM, as well as CB and CMG orders.Paul
censlenov Posted September 2, 2015 Posted September 2, 2015 In addition to all those listed above i've also seen the MSM.
Veteran Posted September 12, 2015 Posted September 12, 2015 Such orders and medals were made to serve as replacements for lost badges or to be arranged for wear on parade uniforms.I believe most of them were struck in solid silver with the appropriate french hallmark. None of the medals have swivelling ribbon bars. All the french made reproductions of British awards and medals that I have come across were for WW1. Whether replacement badges for WW2 were manufactured is open to debate.
paul wood Posted September 14, 2015 Posted September 14, 2015 I have encountered one French copy of a WWII DSC but that is the only French made WWII British decoration I have seen.Paul
