Guest Darrell Posted March 20, 2006 Posted March 20, 2006 Here's some pics of the original cardboard box:a.
Guest Rick Research Posted March 20, 2006 Posted March 20, 2006 The Lenin appears to be a LATE one (processing hung up?), a "last gasp" perhaps of the long service awards that were supposed to have been stopped in the fall of 1957--the timing since the Red Banner of Labor on there would seem to indicate that-- SOME kind of civil servant. I've got less than 500 numbers more Lenins awarded as of 8 years later, 1966-- so this really WAS the last of the big run of the 1950s!!!! If only we could get civil/political awards researched!!!!!It was also interesting to see an apparent (???) numerical and chronological continuation in the two Partisan Medal Award Books-- haven't seen enough of these to have any idea if indeed those numbers actually MEAN something, but you have BOTH classes in what seems to be a single consecutively issued Books run.All in ONE package?????

Thanks Rick. As usual you da man Getting back to the Lenin, can you please tell me the other awards (you mention Red Banner of Labour) and the dates that they correspond to in the booklet? Appreciated ....Also ... didn't the cases normally come with some sort of interior flocking? Seem pretty bare bones for these # 2 and # 3 awards of the USSR? Edited March 20, 2006 by Darrell
Guest Rick Research Posted March 20, 2006 Posted March 20, 2006 The Red Banner of Labor #203,536 was the original 21 April 1952 award (Orders Book issued 26 June 1952), and then AFTER the Lenin is a Badge of Honor #552,929 on 8 April 1971--normally THAT would have been the first of these three in long service. As of 1949, in the railways, as a known example, long service awards were made10 years = Medal for Distinguished Labor15 years = Medal for Valiant Labor20 years = Order of the Red Banner of Labor (from 1947-49 the Order of the Badge of Honor)25 years = Order of Lenin (from 1947-49 the Order of the Red Banner of Labor)which suggests to me that YOUR guy had a MEDALS Book with the MVL etc, and in 1952 reached 20 years, so got the ORBL. A bit over 5 years later, suggesting some sort of paperwork screwup or the rush to get in under the cutoff date causing a processing bottleneck, bingo, the Lenin. So if he started working in 1931/2... that would make that Badge of Honor in 1971 after 40 years of some sort of government employ. If only there were MEDAL documents!!!In any case, it looks like you MAY have the "highest known" long service Lenin!Another odd thing is that he did NOT get a Badge of Honor in the tidal wave of them, one out of every three EVER awarded being bestowed in the two years 1966-1967 BUToh marvelous and strange, from the number above on yours in the Lenin bookover 240,000 Badges of Honor were all awarded on ONE DAY-- 8 April 1971, making THAT the record for this Order!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Guest Darrell Posted March 20, 2006 Posted March 20, 2006 (edited) Great stuff Rick. Thanks again !!! Edited March 20, 2006 by Darrell

Thats just a misunderstanding, Bryan. Rick said, he got a Badge of Honor, but not in the wave of awards in 1966/67, but only in 1971.Darrel, fantastic stuff all around. Love the documented Partisan-Medals Thanks for sharing Edited March 21, 2006 by Gerd Becker
