aubagne98 Posted May 3, 2017 Posted May 3, 2017 Hi there, does anyone know this badge. Maybe it is british. Thanks Michael
coldstream Posted May 4, 2017 Posted May 4, 2017 Not Military but a Scottish Clan Badge of some description I would think. Simon
coldstream Posted May 4, 2017 Posted May 4, 2017 Tried to look through Clan Badges on line but couldn't find a match, with a bit of patience you should find it. All the best Simon
GRA Posted May 4, 2017 Posted May 4, 2017 Clan Buchan? The crest with the sunflower as well as the motto seems to fit. /Jonas
peter monahan Posted May 5, 2017 Posted May 5, 2017 The odd looking hat from which the flower issues is a heraldic 'chapeau' - an ermine trimmed red cap - and, in theory at least, part of the arms of a peer of the realm. The Black Prince had the crest on his arms issuing from one. Not sure that is a huge help except perhaps that it might indicate that the arms are those of the head of Clan Buchanan and not simply a badge for any member of that clan?
jf42 Posted May 15, 2017 Posted May 15, 2017 The chapeau is technically a 'cap of maintenance' and latterly signifies gentry rather than the rank of peer. My g.grandfather, of comparively humble stock, was granted one in his coat of arms by the Lord Lyon in 1912
