Guest Rick Research
Are there limits on the number of holders of each class, or limits on annual bestowals?I have never seen this before, so I wonder if it is a rare honor? It is incredibly UGLY-- like something from the Middle East! And that "knotted rubber bands" suspension [attachmentid=33382]makes it look like something BROKE and was crudely repaired. So we can say Ugly Decorations now go as far back as ME-- 1957!

Guest Rick Research
OK Ed, like something REALLY UGLY from the Middle East! It looks like a cactus or something-- too much green, sharp angles like avocado scales or something--to my descended-from-le Roi Henri I eyes completely "un-French."There is nothing more refined and elegant and truly of superior design than the Legion of Honor. JBFloyd
Both Jerry Lewis and Groucho Marx held the commander's grade. Jerry Lewis also held the Legion d'Honneur. make of that what you will.
Hendrik
It is incredibly UGLY-- like something from the Middle East! And that "knotted rubber bands" suspension Well now, I beg to differ Although I agree the Legion of Honour is in a class of its own, I quite like the various French orders (most of them out of use by now) designwise and that includes this Arts et Lettres one. I find it compares well and even exceeds the design of the Palmes Acad?miques series ... As the French saying goes : les gouts et les couleurs ne se discutent pas Guess we're all entitled to our own likes and preferences - So, my thanks to Guy for posting this topic Keep them coming !Hendrik
