Stijn David Posted September 12, 2017 Posted September 12, 2017 Hello Can anyone give me more information on Leutnant d.R. Unruh Wilhelm?Born on 09.02.1893 at Berlin and KIA on 15.02.1917. What unit did he belong to? What awards did he earn? Thanks in advance
arb Posted September 12, 2017 Posted September 12, 2017 David, He was commissioned Lt.d.R. in RIR 216 but was killed while serving with RIR 240. Andy
Stijn David Posted September 13, 2017 Author Posted September 13, 2017 Hello Andy Thank you! Very usefull and fits 100 %. This as i know he was active within the 26 Reservekorps early to mid 1916. The RIR 240 was part of the 52 Rd, and this as a part of the 26 RK. Do you mayby know the dates of commissioning with the RIR 216 and transfer to the RIR240? Thanks in advance
arb Posted September 13, 2017 Posted September 13, 2017 David, He was commissioned on 07.08.1915, but I can not say when he went to RIR 240. Andy
Stijn David Posted September 13, 2017 Author Posted September 13, 2017 Hi Andy As he was assigned to the 26 Reservekorps early 1916 (February) i guess he was transferred from the R.I.R. 216 to the R.I.R. 240 shortly before or mayby after his commissioning? Cordial greetings and thanks once again
arb Posted September 13, 2017 Posted September 13, 2017 David, It's very hard to say. I have seen many instances where a man is commissioned as a reserve Lt in a regiment but never actually served with that regiment. I am not saying this is the case here, but I mention it to illustrate how difficult iti is to "trace" war-time reserve Lts who were not commissioned in a pre-war regiment. Andy
GreyC Posted September 13, 2017 Posted September 13, 2017 Hi Arb, I find it amazing that you had the information about his commission and transfer in the first place. Would you like to share your sources? GreyC
arb Posted September 13, 2017 Posted September 13, 2017 Given the fact he was killed in action, I used Uebe's "Ehrenmal des preußischen Offizierkorps" to determine his units and the 1915 edition of the MIlitärwochenblatt, column 3449 for his date and unit of commision. Andy
The Prussian Posted September 14, 2017 Posted September 14, 2017 (edited) Hello Andy! Unfortunately I don´t know that book. Could you please show us one single page, so I know, how it is structured. Just for the case, I´ll buy it... Thanks a lot! Edited September 14, 2017 by The Prussian
GreyC Posted September 14, 2017 Posted September 14, 2017 Hello Andy, thank you for the information regarding sources. GreyC

Could you please show us one single page, so I know, how it is structured. Unfortunately, I still do not have a working scanner, so, I am not able to post a page from the book. It is a very useful book, though it is best used with other sources. It includes all Prussian officers killed in action, active, reserve, Landwehr and those recalled for the war. Here is Unruh's entry as an example of the format and type of information provided Unruh.........L.d.R. RIR 216 RIR 240 15.2.17 Ripont. The first unit given is the one in which he received his commission and the second in which he was killed So, as long as you know a name and date of death, you should be able to find any officer. Andy
The Prussian Posted September 14, 2017 Posted September 14, 2017 That´s great, Andy! I think I´ll have to buy it! Thanks a lot!!! Correction... I just bought it... 77€ incl. shipping. I think that´s a good price (book in good condition)
