Charliecheswick Posted October 12, 2017 Posted October 12, 2017 Hi, can anybody help identify this knife, It belonged to somebody who was in the raf, and was given to me, told it was from ww2 Can't find any info, doesn't' have any markings. The blade itself looks old I would like to sell it, but wouldn't know where to sell it to, or if it had a value I do like it though ! Many thanks
QSAMIKE Posted October 12, 2017 Posted October 12, 2017 This is a Private Purchase non-military knife...... It may have been used but was not issued....... M.
Charliecheswick Posted October 12, 2017 Author Posted October 12, 2017 He said it was a theatre knife, does that make any sense ?
QSAMIKE Posted October 12, 2017 Posted October 12, 2017 That's a new one to me...... I had a similar knife only different colours...... I used in when I was in the bush...... M.
coldstream Posted October 12, 2017 Posted October 12, 2017 Pretty sure that if this was in any way a World War 2 issue knife it would have the War Department 'crows foot' mark or Air Ministry mark somewhere on it. Any marks visible at all? Regards Simon
Charliecheswick Posted October 12, 2017 Author Posted October 12, 2017 Hi Simon No there are no markings at all, I just found this though, if you go down to the celluloid handles : http://www.quanonline.com/military/military_reference/fighting_knives/theaterhistory.php
peter monahan Posted October 13, 2017 Posted October 13, 2017 It's what we on this side of the Atlantic call a 'hunting knife', which QSA Mike alludes to. Hundreds of models and sold in any sports store, so it's likely that many found their way to Europe [or were made in Brimingham] with private soldiers, but definitely not an issue item and, I think, unlikely to have been made in Europe or the other theatres in which the Allies fought.
