Soderbaum Posted October 20, 2017 Posted October 20, 2017 Hi I am looking for date and place of birth the the Saxon Hptm Erhard Steinbach from IR 178. I have his promotions but no good service record from WW1. He received the A R1X on 17.01.1917. Anyone who can help ? Gunnar
GreyC Posted October 21, 2017 Posted October 21, 2017 (edited) Good morning, according to the Ehrenrangliste 1914-18 he served at the Unteroffizierschule (NCO School) Marienberg at the end of the war. GreyC Edited October 21, 2017 by GreyC
Dave Danner Posted October 22, 2017 Posted October 22, 2017 (edited) He received the SA3bX on 22.12.1914 as an Oberleutnant in Reserve-Infanterie-Regiment Nr. 102. He received the SA3aX on 17.1.1917 as a Hauptmann in Reserve-Jäger-Bataillon Nr. 12. He does not appear in any casualty lists, so no birthplace through that source. He was promoted to Fähnrich on 21.12.1906 in IR 178 and Leutnant on 19.8.1907 (Pat. 19.2.06), so he was probably born around 1888. Edited October 22, 2017 by Dave Danner
Soderbaum Posted October 23, 2017 Author Posted October 23, 2017 Thanks both for added info These Saxon officers are really hard to solve regarding basic info. My theory at moment is that he "left" the Army already during 1915, so that award in early 1917 might reflect an "late award". It is certain that he in 1918 was back in the Army due an DAL liste.
