Nack Posted July 10, 2018 Posted July 10, 2018 (edited) This infantry Waffen oak has a stamp which reads “Gepruft ____________ 115”. I’ve got some guesses as to the other letters, but am I tesetest in opinions. The middle of the stamping is kind of light, so I tried to fool around with the colors to make it stand out better. Any thoughts appreciated! Edited July 10, 2018 by Nack
15THPACAV Posted July 11, 2018 Posted July 11, 2018 Looks like it might read Stab; staff or HQ of IR ( infantry regt}. 115. BobS
Nack Posted July 11, 2018 Author Posted July 11, 2018 Thanks much! I thought it might be “I.R.”! Please forgive the rookie question - it’s my first German uniform.
Chris Boonzaier Posted July 11, 2018 Posted July 11, 2018 Wow.... that looks like a promising start indeed!!! lets see the rest of it! :-)
Nack Posted July 11, 2018 Author Posted July 11, 2018 For sure! Here’s the whole thing. Sorry - not sure why the pics are rotated, and my photography skills leave much to be desired.
Chris Boonzaier Posted July 11, 2018 Posted July 11, 2018 Nice indeed! I no longer have my WW2 references... that is the shoulderstrap?
Nack Posted July 11, 2018 Author Posted July 11, 2018 Thanks! Yep - those are the shouldersraps. “KS” for Kriegsschule. I’m not sure of the letter below - is it a W?
Chris Boonzaier Posted July 11, 2018 Posted July 11, 2018 I think it is the Kriegsschule Wiener Neustadt? formerly the Austrian Kriegsschule.... https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Theresian_Military_Academy
Nack Posted July 11, 2018 Author Posted July 11, 2018 Thanks again! These old-style German letters befuddle me!
Nack Posted July 11, 2018 Author Posted July 11, 2018 By the way, the positioning of the award loops - is that indicative of a wound badge, other combat-type badge (like an infantry-assault badge), or could be other things? Again, sorry for the rookie questions.
Chris Boonzaier Posted July 11, 2018 Posted July 11, 2018 I am guessing he was an NCO in Darmstadt (115th), was maybe wounded then sent to the School? Try a wound and assault badge, the wound badge loops will usually be closer together
