Wessel Gordon Posted June 28, 2019 Posted June 28, 2019 I apologize if this is in the wrong section but I was wondering if the medal mentioned above had a ribbon (such as those US soldiers have on their uniforms instead of the actual medals) or if the medal itself was worn on suitable occasions.
Schießplatzmeister Posted June 29, 2019 Posted June 29, 2019 Hello Wessel, This is a great question. I know of no instance where, while in uniform, the PLM ribbon only (buttonhole, field ribbon bar) was worn to signify the award. If in uniform, the award was usually worn. For civilian wear there were miniature buttonhole ribbons that would signify the full-size award. Best regards,
Wessel Gordon Posted June 29, 2019 Author Posted June 29, 2019 That's what I thought. All pictures that I've seen of Pour le Merite recipients shows the recipient wearing the medal but then again as far as I can remember those were all military men so they were photographed in full uniform.
GreyC Posted June 29, 2019 Posted June 29, 2019 Hi, Ernst Jünger wore his PlM around the neck regardless of civil dress. GreyC https://www.deutschland-lese.de/index.php?article_id=1149
Beau Newman Posted June 30, 2019 Posted June 30, 2019 What I understand is that recipients were expected to wear them at all times while in uniform by regulation.
