As I know this dealer well I have to believe that it is a fair price. I was just suprised, as it was not awarded thus possibly decreasing its value.

    Doc-

Surprise! We "researchers" are actually the minority of Soviet award collectors. There is a much greater percentage of people out there who collect by type and/or condition. I can't tell you how many times I've seen research thrown away from awards or groups because the buyer just wanted the award(s) because of a rare variation. This will go in someone's collection who appreciates the numismatic value of the piece, and who wouldn't give two cents (or kopeks) for who it may or may not have been awarded to.

Having been a "variation" collector once upon a time, I can appreciate & understand that position...... but not at the expense of destroying research and/or groups. It's the research angle of Soviet that intrigues me.

I agree 100% !! For me, it's the research that I love. I have a husband & wife group researched and translated and my first ORB is undergoing research now. Believe me, Research is where it's at!!

Personaly, I am one of those people who collects because he wants the full set but if a medal came with research I would keep it with the medal for re-sale purposes.

At the moment though I wont be researching any of my medals because I would rather spend the money on expanding my collection.

    Just my two rubles..........
