    Hi, folks!

I am creating my first topic. So firstly, I would like to thank you for accepting me. I am a young guy from Turkey. I love history, especially: WW1, Turkish War of Independence and WW2. I would like to meet any one to inform each other about history&politics. Now, after introducing my self to you, I would like to ask my question:

I used to collect Third Reich awards but I sold my collection recently because there was no pattern in the way I collect. I was just buying the things I liked. Also, since it is extremely hard to find Third Reich awards for sale in Turkey, it was so expensive to buy. Now this summer I have a change to visit Germany. I assume I can find cheap Third Reich medals there. I was planning to collect “Schutzwall-Ehrenzeichen” or “Kriegsverdienstmedaille” because I believe they are the cheap ones; but the problem is, because I want to collect professionally, I believe I need to learn manufacturers; you know, they stamp their numbers on the chain between medal and ribbon. Can anyone please tell me all of their manufacturers’ numbers? So I can collect all of them. Thank you so much.

    Best regards, from Turkey

    Dear Utku,

    Welcome to the forum ??

You know that collections do not have to follow a pattern? Although I have a focus on particular items, there is a certain chaos in my collection to. I also love to pick up the items I like which do not necessarily fit my collection :) If your fun comes from picking up the pieces you like I can only advice you to buy the items you like and love.

If you do want to specialise in a certain subject, might I suggest you to find any reference books on the
subject matter to start with. I do not have any examples for you, but maybe other forum members know which books to look for?

    Best regards,

    Mr. Peter,

I thank a lot for your kind answer.

If you don’t mind, I would like to ask you a question since you also collect medals.

I was wondering if you do or don’t focus on medal’s type. For example, let’s say “Order of Red Banner”. from the same manufacturer of that award, there are more then one types. Like type 1, type 2...

While you or other medal collectors collect, do you focus on it? Don’t you try to creat a pattern?

I did research for it actually, for a guide book which tells about all the details; but couldn’t exactly find what I was looking for. Maybe I just care to much about details?..

    Utka,

Welcome to the  GMIC.  Like most collectors I buy what interests me and will provide me with hours of fun in the research of the artifact.  This often leads me to start a new collection on a specific artifact/area that I have not collected/researched.  This can get pricey so there are some areas of interest where I have only been able to add the less expensive artifacts.  This doesn't interfere with extensive research though.  As for finding one book that covers all aspects of one medal, that is possible but I would advise that when you decide to focus on one medal you buy as many books in this area as you can find.  There are unintentional mistakes in most books and the correct answer may be in a different book or a later edition of the same book.  Good luck in your quest for assistance.

    Regards,

    Gordon

    Dear Utku,

The medals I have are actually items I bought because I like them. There has not gone much strategy into buying them ? Also personally, I am not a completeist, meaning, I do not care or crave to find every possible variant there is out there. Besides this, for me a lot of the fun also comes from the chase, to look for the items, the hunt at the auction, the anticipation of the wait, and like Gordon the fun in the research. There are off course collectors out there who try to find every variant possible, and that's totally fine. My point is, you will have to discover for yourself what you do and do not like. We can show you the yellow brick road and help you walk the road, but you will have to do the walking yourself.

    Best, Peter

This is EXACTLY what motivates most collectors to collect...

    ... unless you're a hoarder with OCD.

Thanks a lot for everyone’s respond.

After those supportive comments, I think I can go for Condor Legion awards. Since it can be a great concept. I was also wondering, dear friends which online shops you trust?

I only buy from EMedals, because they are shipping my item..- unlike other sellers I bought from.

and like I said, I think I will go for condor legion awards. Which will cost a lot. I need to find trusted seller. Do you think EMedal is one of them? I was planning to buy Bronze Spanish Cross wo/s from them.

    Please let me know.

    Thanks a lot.

    Utku,

I buy from emedals but like any dealer you need to study their pictures to make sure that what they have for sale is what you actually want. Their prices are high but if you wish to return an item after you receive it they are easy to deal with.  If you want comments on the crss you wish to buy from emedals why not post a link to the cross here.

    Regards,

    Gordon
