Definetly not Francois.

The awards do not match; Francois was no Vet of 1870/71.

That would not be possible as Hermann von François was not a Franco-German war veteran as is this chap. 

 

What are our thoughts on the decoration in last place on his medal bar? The ribbon looks like a Hessen Philipp.

Yes, Glenn, its a Philipp IMO.

It might be Gen Karl Hanesse.

Hi Glenn,

 

most likely the knight 2nd class with swords was not a 1870/71 wartime Philipp but a later peacetime award, which was automatically awarded with swords to Soldiers until the 1890ies.

 

The Philipp knight 1st class was awarded after that and therefore without swords.
