Rookie Posted September 10, 2021 Posted September 10, 2021 Hi, this is my first post with photos, so let see.... I got this orders of Thohoyandou, from Venda pre 1994 I can't find any info on them and no pictures on the net. so I presume they are scarce. 2
Marcon1 Posted September 11, 2021 Posted September 11, 2021 Order of Thohoyandou (1977-94) (1981-1994) For distinguished service to Venda. The order was divided into four classes: Grand Cross - for heads of state and prime ministers. Grand Commander Commander Officer Insignia: A green-enamelled oval shield framed by two ivory tusks and depicting a golden elephant head (obverse) and the Venda national arms (reverse). The first three classes are worn around the neck, and the fourth on the chest. The Grand Cross and Grand Commander also have a gold 8-pointed breast star displaying the badge. The Order of Thohoyandou – The symbols of the orders are in the form of an oval shield made from silver, framing and a facing elephant head by tusks in ivory. The higher the order the more ornate with a 8 pointed star and gilt multi rayed star. Some of the decorations have makers and silver mark. Marcon1. NB: I have seen just 2 full sets being offered on Ebay and BidorBuy in the last 5 years, so they are pretty scarce.
fjcp Posted October 3, 2021 Posted October 3, 2021 Just wow...I've been collecting homeland stuff for 5 years now, and my brother 10 years before that, and I've never seen these before. Congratulations. I wish more of the homeland stuff was available but I guess that's part of the charm!! Great stuff!!!

archie777 Posted April 25 Posted April 25 Hi Chris, Thanks a million. Still far to go for Megan, but we will support her as far as we can Will get good quality pictures of excellent Homeland awards soon Regards Archie
Megan Posted April 25 Posted April 25 I have seen your images of the Order of Indwe Archie, and realised the error of my ways, but thank you, Chris, for pointing it out. I'd rather hear about something I've spotted than miss something that needs doing! However I'm an academic and it's peak assessment time, I am buried under emails from distraught students and piles of marking. Not eveni managing to keep up on here and barely meeting my 'medal a night' target. Roll on the weekend...
archie777 Posted April 25 Posted April 25 Hi Megan, I also miss out on my book for the past week, but hope to have good quality pictures of some Homeland awards that I only have drawings of. I will definitely share them on GMIC. I'm waiting to hear where I can get good quality photos of all Prisons Services awards. Regards Archie
archie777 Posted April 25 Posted April 25 Hi Megan, If you need clearer pictures of any awards, please let me know Will start with the different South African Awards soon Regards Archie
Megan Posted April 26 Posted April 26 Thank you, Archie, you are very kind. And it's now Friday, I've finally managed to clear down my work emails, and intend to play with medals all weekend. Marking can wait until Monday!
archie777 Posted April 26 Posted April 26 Pleasure Megan, Let me know where I can help you You have to see my set of 1968 of the SA Prisons Service Have a great weekend Regards Archie
Megan Posted April 27 Posted April 27 Just trying to catch up on what you have posted on GMIC and adding notes to the log file of image sources for the website - there's a big chart for each section/nation so I can track the source of everything used and acknowledge appropriately. Then there's another Word document for each nation which has every detail I can find for each award and the high quality images. That's the one that will become a PDF eventually and be made available to anyone who wants it.
